Searching for a case or cover to make your iPad drop-proof?
There are dozens of written reviews and YouTube clips from people testing drop-proof iPad cases, who never actually put the iPad in the case and drop it.
Who wants to listen to a sales pitch about the multiple layers of hard and soft materials that offer protection, without seeing the case in action?
This review is not a page of empty promises.
iPad lovers of a squeamish disposition may want to look away now as the video clips below contain footage of iPad owners doing gruesome things to their beloved gadget to see if the case can withstand the stress.
Does the iPad even need a case?
No matter how careful you are with your iPad, its versatility means you will be using it and carrying it around a lot.
Every day your iPad will face risks from dropping during use, scratches, and splashes.
So how durable is the iPad without a case?
Macworld made this YouTube video of a stress test on the iPad.
Although the test is done in a tongue in cheek style, the important things to note from the test were:
- There was damage to the iPad from three drops from about 2 feet up, onto carpeted flooring.
- The screen was pretty much scratch proof, even when a nail was taken to it.
- Water was the iPad's biggest enemy.

Kraken From Trident Cases
First up is the Kraken from Trident cases.
The video is short and straight to the point. The iPad, safely enclosed in a Kraken case, is dropped from a height of around 5 feet to simulate an everyday mishap. Then it is splashed with water. Good news - the iPad survives.
The Kraken is black and is available with yellow, red, blue, grey or black trim.
The case offers all round protection, including a screen cover, and adds extra grip with its handles suitable for portrait or landscape positioning.
The Kraken iPad case retails for $39.99 from tridentcase.com, or can be purchased from Amazon through the links below.

iBallz
This contraption looks like it really shouldn't work but this video, and a number of 5* Amazon ratings, says it does.
The balls on each corner help cushion the iPad no matter which way it falls. No matter how it falls it will always land on one of the 'iBallz' on the harness first. When using the iPad at a desk or table you can reposition one of the 'iBallz' to sit behind the iPad and prop it up at a convenient angle for viewing, gaming or typing. It also raised the iPad off of any flat surface to protect from any spilled drinks seeping underneath it.
The iBallz can be teamed with a number of accessories.
The iBallz sleeve is like a fabric diaper for your iPad.
You lay the iPad on the sleeve, then wrap the cover over and fasten it to protect your iPad while not in use.
The sleeve protects from scratches whike the iBallz still stick out at the corners to give protection from drops.
The sleeve also forms a glove for your to slide a hand into and comfortably hold your iPad up one-handed.
The iBallz hard case can be used with or without the iBallz harness and features a hand strap for carrying it around.
The iBallz satchel lets you carry the iPad around on a strap. The iPad will fit in the satchel with or without the iBallz harness.

Otterbox Defender Case
This reviewer takes stress testing to a whole new level.
The video shows mis-haps that even the most unlucky iPad owner is unlikely to suffer, but gives a good indication of how durable the Otterbox Defender case is.
There are two Otterbox iPad cases:
The Defender - as featured in the video - is the most durable designed to drop-proof your iPad. It features a built-in stand, and a solid screen protector that snaps onto the back for storage when the iPad is in use. This retails from Otterbox.com for $89.95.
The Commuter is a slimmer case designed for everyday mishaps. It is cheaper than the Defender at $64.95, and less bulky, but does not offer the same level of protection.

Obviously you've been at this a little while. I just started about 3 weeks ago. Haven't made a dime either, but I will. Just learning the ropes.
I have alot of respect for the ability you show in presenting your ads on the hub. I think I'm a great writer, but my Hub Building skills need a little honing.
Looking at your presentation here has given me many new ideas. Also, your many hubativity subjects are very interesting and well chosen. Learning on that too.
It's nice to see good work. Keep it up.
