Hasbro Playskool Alphie (Alfie) The Learning Toy Robot 2010 Review
68
If you were an 1980s child, no doubt you either had, or lusted after a Playskool Alphie.
So you'll be pleased to hear that Alphie the Learning Toy Robot is back, and he's had a 2010 make over.
He will still help little ones with math, shapes, colors and letters, and now he has a more realistic LCD screen face.
Hasbro's Playskool Alphie is aimed at children ages 3 and up. He is a great introduction to electronic learning toys, for kids who are not yet ready for a handheld electronic learning system, such as the Leapster Explorer, or VTech MobiGo.
He works in the same way as before, with the games stored on little cards you slot into the robot. Then use the buttons on the front of the robot to select the correct answers. Listen out for his robot noises that tell you if you are correct, and gice you clues if you need help.
But enough about you, your child will also enjoy playing with Alphie (if you will put the toy down long enough). The buttons are chunky and brightly colored, making them easy for little hands to operate. And Alphie has a sturdy handle so kids can carry him everywhere.
27 customers have reviewed Alphie on Amazon. They gave an average rating of 4.5 stars out of 5, with not one customer being disappointed (as at 11/03/2010). You can read all the customer reviews here.
Customers loved that Alphie was more fun and interactive than a pre-school workbook, and has a compartment for storing the cards to help keep them safe
The recommended price is $44.99 but look out for discounts and offers that will bring that price down.
Description from Playskool.com:
"Who better to explore the world with than someone who's new to it? This ALPHIE robot is on a "field trip" from his home planet and, with a kooky grin and funny faces, it's his "mission" to explore the world! There's practically nothing this little dynamo doesn't want to "talk about" -- from letter sounds and shape sorting to patterns, cause and effect, vocabulary development and much more, your ALPHIE robot is like a classroom in one little portable robot buddy. Educational fun on-the-go is as easy as can be, too, with this little guy's handled noggin and storage spot for his cards in his backpack. There's a whole lot to discover when you're a preschooler and this ALPHIE figure shares one of the most important lessons, too: learning can be tons of fun"
In The Box:
- Alphie the Robot
- 30 double-sided cards
- 3 "AA" batteries included.
